So...How's Your Girl?

“You don’t write about yourself enough, you post-modern hippy.”
This wasn’t the typical “hello” message that pops up on an AIM window, but it was the typical type of asshole message I would have expected from this friend. I let him continue.
“Well, every now and then you’ll write a little bit about your life, but, for the most part, you don’t write about yourself! I want to hear about what you did on Saturday night! I want to see pictures! I want to know what you did at work!”
Wow! A complaint about my blog! “I highly doubt anyone would be interested in the mundane details of my everyday life,” I typed.
“Do you think anyone is really interested in all the other shit you write about??”
I was taken aback by my friend’s witty retort. But what really amused me was my friend’s comment that I was a “post-modern hippy”. I’ve never really considered myself “postmodern”, and I wasn’t flattered nor insulted by his comment. True postmodernism (if it even exists, that is) is broad and difficult to define, but I suppose blogging is very postmodern in and of itself. It can be argued that postmodernism is nothing more than the movement of being different for the sake of being different (so cool!). And he probably called me a “hippy” because of my shoulder-length hair.
Rather than engage in the ironic situation of debating the merits of postmodernism in an AIM conversation, I decided to just let the comment pass. But nevertheless, I will indulge my friend (and those of you who are interested, I suppose) in a little biography of myself (highlight if you're interested):
I was born and raised in Cerritos, CA. I attended Catholic school from grades 3-12. After high school I moved to San Diego and attended UCSD. I was highly involved in student organizations and the Filipino American community when I was an undergrad. I eeked through college and earned my B.S. in Biochemistry in 1999. In 2000 I moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL and attended optometry school at NSU. I didn’t care much for Florida and was glad to move back after graduation in 2004. Since then I’ve been working in Los Angeles and I currently live in a loft in downtown Burbank.
In my spare time I like to read books (novels and non-fiction) and make snarky comments about the world. I listen to rock, hardcore hiphop, pop, and country music. I'm colorblind. I am a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins, UCLA athletics, Robotech, and Kate Beckinsale. Politically, I lean to the far left. November is my favorite month. Friends is my favorite TV show of all time. Mercury is my favorite planet. I have two tattoos. In general, I’m very quiet and reserved. I enjoy broadcast radio. My favorite words are "copacetic", "charlatan", and "clandestine". Conceited and overly confident people annoy me. The single most influential person in my life thus far is KRS-ONE.
And after a long period AIM silence, I got this message: “And cut your hair. You look like a frickin’ homo.”

Interesting that Friends is your favorite tv show... I would have thought it'd be Court TV or something "dramatic and mind-gripping."
